Abstract

1,116,172. Regulating I.C. engines. LA PUBLICITE FRANCAISE. Nov. 22, 1965 [July 30, 1965], No.49586/65. Headings F1A and F1B. A device for correcting the injected fuel flow in an I. C. engine in accordance with variations in surrounding temperature or pressure comprises a movable wall 3 sealing a first chamber 4 from a second chamber 11, the movable wall controls the injection pump delivery, the engine coolant flows through a cavity 7 under the control of a temperature-responsive valve 8 and the second chamber is connected to a pressure take-off 13 in the induction pipe 1. Valve 8 responds to the temperature prevailing either in the engine compartment or to the ambient temperature or to the temperature of the induction air. A rotary cam 25 acting on a spring-loaded push rod 24 reciprocates piston 23, the stroke length being controlled by the position of a return abutment 26 which is pivoted by the movement of balls 30a, 30b acting on ramp 29. Operation. If the temperature of chamber 4 remains constant an increase in induction pipe pressure causes a rise in the pressure in chamber 11 and diaphragm 3 moves upwardly to take up a new equilibrium position. Spring 22 moves piston 21 upwardly thus causing a movement of return abutment 26 to permit an increased stroke of piston 23. If the induction pipe pressure remains constant on increase in temperature of chamber 4 causes the mass of air to expand to reduce the stroke of piston 23 and vice versa.
