Abstract
1328751 Lightning arresters OHIO BRASS CO 6 Jan 1971 [7 Jan 1970] 651/71 Heading H2H A lightning arrester comprises a series of gap units 20 connected in series with at least one coil assembly 16 which consists of a magnetic blow-out coil 17 in parallel with a non-linear resistor 18. The non-linear resistors are in the form of valve blocks and the gap units, two of which are shown in Fig. 4, each comprise copper electrodes 24, 25 separated from a porous ceramic extinguishing plate 13a by a layer 33 of insulating tape. The electrodes are secured in place by an epoxy adhesive and are connected to an electrode of an upper and a lower gap unit by hollow copper rivets 30, 31. Grading resistors 35 in parallel with a capacitor 36 and a preionising gap 37 with an associated resistor 38 and a capacitor 39 are provided. Each plate 13a, 13b is provided with fingers 45, 46 to cause the blown-out arc to flutter thereby preventing localised heating. The fingers are surrounded by grooves 49, 50.
