Abstract
1340539 Air heater elements CLEVITE CORP 24 Nov 1971 [9 Dec 1970 31 March 1971] 54576/71 Heading H5H An air heater resistance element (Fig. 1) comprises an apertured foil strip 10 arranged in a sinuous pattern and supported by insulated rods 22, the rods being secured to a frame comprising rods 22 and plate 26, an insulating terminal block 20 carrying terminals 16, 18 being connected to plate 26 and the ends of the foil strip being secured to the terminals. The foil may be of an alloy material, e.g. 35Ni-45Fe- 20Cr having a thickness of 4-16 mils., and the apertures may be mechanically punched, electrochemically formed, or formed by cutting and expanding the foil. The support rods 22 may be steel, coated or sleeved with ceramic material, or alternatively they may be quartz or glass. Each rod extends through its associated pattern such that the pattern is arranged symmetrically around the rods (Fig. 2)- (not shown). The rods have a dielectric strength of at least 2¢ thousand volts.
