Abstract

1414431 Flow heater SCHLADITZWHISKERS AG 9 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 22070/73 Heading H5H A flow-heater comprises a plurality of heating elements 2 in series in a flow path, each element 2 consisting of electrically conducting whiskers felted together and mutually fixed at their points of contact by a metal, the elements being alternated with homogenizing zones 4 in which no appreciable heating takes place. The heating elements are separated by conconductive spacing pieces 3 or by conductive fibre skeletons (7, Fig. 2, not shown) offering little electrical resistance to current or mechanical resistance to fluid flowing therethrough to permit homogenizing of the fluid leaving the heating element. Wire lattices 5 retain the heating elements. Heating current is passed through the series of heating elements between perforated disc electrodes 6 or is generated in situ by an induction coil not shown. The whiskers may be of metal, e.g. polycrystalline iron or metallized carbon, alumina or quartz fibres.
