Abstract

1328096 Fuel injection pumps SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 20 Nov 1970 [9 Dec 1969] 59933/69 Heading F1A A fuel injection pump has a pumping plunger 15 reciprocable by a cam actuated tappet 30, the tappet 30 being slidable in a guide 31 laterally adjustable to change the timing of the commencement of injection. Injection commences the moment an inlet port (not shown) is closed by the plunger 15, this moment corresponding to a different angular position of the cam for different lateral settings of the guide 31. The injection is terminated when a helical groove in the plunger aligns with the inlet port. To ensure that lateral movement of the guide 31 does not alter the axial position of the plunger when the cam 11 is in the position shown, the tappet is provided with an appropriately shaped head 35 or cam surface (24), Fig.2 (not shown). Three distinct mechanisms for effecting the lateral adjustment of the guide are described.
