Abstract
1327616 Foundry sand CHAMOTTE-UND TONWERK KURT HAGENBURGER 2 Oct 1970 [7 Oct 1969] 46875/70 Heading C3N [Also in Division C1] A material for use in foundry moulds is made by grinding, granulating, and sintering clay. Additives prior to sintering may be alumina, bauxite, high-alumina slag, MgO, borax, calcined soda, and potash feldspar. The sintered clay has a surface area below 150 cm<SP>2</SP>./g., and may be coated with synthetic resin before forming into moulds. Alternatively, the clay may be mixed with binders and moulded by conventional methods. Binders mentioned are phenolic resins, furan resins, linseed oil, dextrin, bentonite, clay, water glass, ethyl silicate, aluminium phosphate, and bentonite/starch (2-5%).
