Abstract
1279628 Refractory compositions RESIL PROCESSES Ltd 17 April 1970 [17 Jan 1969 1 Feb 1969] 34083/68 and 36732/68 Heading C1J [Also in Division C3] A refractory composition comprises "floaters" (the components of fly ash which float on water) of density less than 0À6 gm. per c.c. and of which the majority pass a 40 B.S.S. sieve and are retained on a 235 B.S.S. sieve and a fibrous organic material, e.g. comminuted newspaper and pulped cardboard. The composition can contain a refractory aggregate such as silica sand, crushed firebrick, grog, coke, olivine, magnesite and asbestos and binders such as natural and synthetic resins, glue and waterglass. The composition in the form of a slurry in water is used to make hot tops and linings for the feeder heads of moulds for casting metals.
