Abstract

1420190 Ingot mould tile K HARRIS 2 Oct 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 47106/71 Heading C3N An ingot mould tile comprises a mixture of paper pulp in the range 3-15% by weight and refractory material making up the remainder, the refractory material containing a minimum of 38% by weight of alumina. The refractory material is preferably crushed firebrick grog which has a minimum alumina content of 38% by weight and also of a size to pass a standard B.S.S. No. 20 mesh sieve. A preferred mixture comprises 6% by weight of paper pulp and 94% by weight of refractory material. Refractory materials which may be used in place of the firebrick grog, but having the specified alumina content, include silica, sillimanite, olivine or ball mill dust or mixtures of these refractory materials. Up to 6% by weight of slag wool, asbestos or pertite may be used to form a part of the refractory content of the tile.
