Abstract

998,699. Ingot moulds. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. Oct. 4, 1961 [Oct. 4, 1960], No. 35806/61. Heading B3F. A hot top comprises a relatively thin-walled hood 10 constructed in part at least of heatinsulating material containing refractory and organic material, and an outer supporting casing 11 of heat-resistant material. The refractory may be quartz, sand &c., burnt dolomite, slags &c., the organic material may comprise paper pulp, waste paper &c., and other substances such as refractory fibrous material such as asbestos, binders such as synthetic resin, animal or vegetable glues, waterglass and exothermic materials may be added. The supporting casing may be of cast iron, refractory concrete, cement or bricks. Exothermic inserts may be placed in the hood, or the upper part thereof may be made of exothermic material.
