A method of casting consists in pouring molten metal into a mould containing a pattern made of combustible material so that the molten metal causes the pattern to burn and takes the place thereof. The pattern of expanded polystyrene or polyethylene may be in one piece, or of several pieces cemented, dowelled, or wired together. The pattern is embedded in compacted sand or plaster of Paris.
