Abstract

908,343. Ingot moulds. FOUNDRY SERVICES INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Nov. 20, 1959 [Sept. 29, 1958], No. 31096/58. Class 83 (1). Mould walls are lined with granular material which is compacted in a cavity formed between the mould walls and a template having a downwardly extending plate 14 and a plate 15 extending from the base thereof to abut the mould wall, the template being of such dimensions that it is removable from the mould without collapsing or disassembling it. An exothermic slab may be supported on pins 18 on the template so as to be left embedded in the lining when the template is removed. The granular filling may contain a binder such as sodium silicate which is hardened by CO 2 after compacting. Instead of two limbs 15, 16 the template may have one lower limb which is hinged so that it may be positioned for coating opposite walls. The upright element may be adjustable in length. Opposite walls may be lined by using two templates with a spacer between them. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of straps on the walls which key into and help to retain the lining in position.
