Abstract

875,568. Casting-processes. FOUNDRY SERVICES INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Sept. 21, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 33673/58. Class 83 (1). Castings are formed with unidirectional columnar crystals by casting in a mould with walls consisting of, or lined with, an exothermic material positively cooling the cast metal at the base of the mould and applying powdered exothermic material to the upper surface of the melt. The thickness of the exothermic material may vary from a minimum near the cooling surface to a maximum at the position remote therefrom. Specifications 627,678, 769,719, 774,490, 774,491 and 835,483 are referred to.
