Abstract
A magnesium type flux is added to a stream of molten cast iron containing magnesium, or an alkali metal, or an alkaline earth metal prior to entering a mould in the production of spheroidal graphite cast iron. The flux, which may contain magnesium in the metallic form, may be poured on to the stream of metal entering the mould, or added by means of a stream of inert gas, or may be dusted in granular form on to the metal.
