Abstract
1325763 Glove boxes BECTON DICKINSON & CO 8 July 1970 [8 July 1969] 33226/70 Heading B4Q [Also in Division F4] In apparatus 20 for handling work samples in a protected atmosphere and comprising a cabinet 21 provided with an access opening 41 closable by a releasable panel 23 having glove ports 24, 25, clean air is circulated by a blower 48 through a diffusion screen 60 and downwardly through the work area 52 whereafter the air is cycled back to the blower 48 and through decontaminating filters 51, by way of ducts 65 and 66, to be once again circulated as clean air through the work area. A portion of the recycled air is picked up by a further blower 53 and exhausted from the cabinet through a filter 54 and screen 37 to create a negative pressure within the cabinet. Air is prevented from leaving the work area through access opening 41 by means of an air curtain provided by high velocity air issuing from the bottom of the slot 68 defined by spaced transparent panels 27, 62. Services such as lights 55, 56 and 57 are provided in the cabinet. A flow meter (47, Figs. 5 and 6) is provided to indicate the velocity of the circulating air. Any observed change can be compensated by suitably varying the speed of the blower 48 via a speed controller (44, Fig. 2).
