Abstract
1,100,616. Removing dust &c. in industrial processes. BAKER CO. Inc. 7 July, 1965 [14 Aug., 1964], No. 28838/65. Heading F4X. An industrial work bench is formed as a plenum chamber 6 into which dust &c. is drawn through apertures 15 at the forward edge of the bench, the dust-laden air passing from the chamber 6 to a chamber 2 containing an impeller 4 discharging into a chamber 19 in which is mounted an interchangeable filter 20. Filtered air re-enters the space 21 above the work bench through a grille 22. The bench shown is provided with a hood in the roof of which are fluorescent lights 27. The side walls of the hood are also formed as plenum chambers and have at their forward edges apertures 16 into which passes some of the dusty air from the work-space 21. The side wall plenum chambers communicate with the bench plenum chamber 6 through ports 9, 9<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 4B, not shown). In a further arrangement described (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) for two workers sitting face to face, the bench is provided at the forward edges with the apertures 15 as described above, but a cross flow of air is arranged in the working space 21. The air carrying dust &c. enters one side wall of an open ended hood through a grille therein and thereafter is ducted through a filter and thence to the other side wall also containing a grille through which the dust-free air re-enters the working space.
