Abstract

1502885 Fume cabinets J J LANDY 26 Aug 1975 35195/75 Heading F4X A cabinet for the handling or treatment of materials therein in a protected atmosphere (e.g. biohazardous or portentially hazardous materials or materials requiring a dust-free environment whilst being handled), comprises a generally upright rectangular casing 11 with a transparent front viewing panel 20 and containing a blower 18 for continuously recycling the atmosphere within the cabinet upwardly through a plenum chamber 19 and downwardly through a filter 12 to the space above a work tray 15 (shown as being positioned in a perforated support 30), the viewing panel 20 being so shaped at 22 as to cause in the downflowing air stream a deceleration and consequent negative pressure in the vicinity of the work tray and thereby inhibiting any outflow of air from the cabinet via an opening 25 provided at the lower end of the panel for admitting make-up air and for hand access to material on the work tray 15. Excess air is discharged from the cabinet through a filter 14. The viewing panel 20 is hinged at 21 and is also detechable. A further form of the cabinet (Figs. 2, 6 and 7) suitable for mounting on a bench, is described.
