Abstract

1324514 Feeding webs K D L BERESFORD (CANON KK) 16 July 1970 34560/70 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] An electrophotographic copier has a system for cutting off different lengths of copy paper to allow production of copies of various sizes. As shown, a photoconductive web 2 is fed from a roll 1 by a roller 4. Connected to roller 4 is an apertured disc 12 which rotates between a lamp 13 and a photocell 14 to produce pulses which are fed to a counter Z to measure the length of paper fed. When the number of pulses counted by Z corresponds with a copy size set on a preselector V a relay R is closed. Relay R switches off roller 4, re-sets counter Z to zero and discharges a capacitor 20 through an electromagnet 19 to actuate a cutter roll 9 which co-operates with a knife 8 to sever the paper. A saftey switch 23 cuts off power source 24 if lamp 13 goes out.
