Abstract

1329998 Feeding sheets ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP 6 Nov 1970 [24 Nov 1969] 52939/70 Heading B8R A sheet feeding device for use with an electrostatic or diazo copying machine comprises means for sensing the length of an original being fed to the machine, means for severing from a supply roll an equal length of copy material and means for superimposing the original and the length of copy material. An original passing along path 102 triggers a switch arm 115 which initiates the feed of copy paper from a roll 30, along feed path 40 towards the point of convergence, 100, of the paths. Release of arm 115 by the trailing edge of the original causes cutter 86 to sever the copy paper. The superposed sheets are fed to the machine by rollers 96, 98. If the original is of such a width that it triggers switch arm 113, wider copy paper is fed, by rollers 72, 74, from roll 32 and no paper is fed from roll 30. If the original is so short that its leading edge does not actuate switch arm 121 before its trailing edge passes switch arm 115, the cutter will not be actuated on detection of the trailing edge by arm 115. Instead the control circuit causes a predetermined length of copy paper ("d" plus "d4") to be severed, thus ensuring that the paper will not be so short as to interfere with the feed. Switch arms 117, 119 detect when copy paper from a particular roll has been used up.
