Abstract

1416470 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 10 July 1973 [11 July 1972] 32863/73 Heading B8R In an electrostatic copying machine provided with a main pile elevator for copy sheets and an auxiliary pile elevator 101 for copy sheets there is control means for permitting movement of the auxiliary elevator to a sheet feeding position when the main elevator is inoperative and for moving the auxiliary elevator to an inoperative position before the main elevator is activated. When the supply of sheets on the main elevator is exhausted or a predetermined number of copies has been produced from sheets from the main table the machine assumes a non-print mode and a signal is applied to line 108 and after a predetermined time interval a signal is applied to line 118. Bistate means 110 responds to the signal on line 118 and assumes its second state. If the operator then actuates auxiliary elevator switch 107 the bistate means assumes its first state. A signal to illuminate indicator lamp 112 is sent and the auxiliary elevator motor control 106 is activated to cause the motor to raise the elevator until the top of the pile is sensed by limit switch 119. This switch continues to control the elevator to keep the top of the pile at a predetermined level during removal of sheets therefrom. When the auxiliary elevator is empty or when a predetermined number of copies has been made on sheets from the auxiliary elevator a further signal appears on line 108 causing the elevator to be lowered to its inoperative position as determined by detector 120. After a time interval a signal is applied on line 118 and bistate 110 is reset to its second state. The main elevator may now be brought to its operative position by actuation of switch 122.
