PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of the copy processing capability for the occurrence of a jam or the like in a copying machine main body, by ejecting an original, which passes through the position of a leading edge sensor, and holding the next original in the position of the leading edge sensor when a signal indicating that a copy form cannot be fed is received. CONSTITUTION:When piled-up originals are inserted to a separation part 102 from an original table 110, the lowermost original is separated by a separating roller 122 and a press plate 123; and when leading edge of this original reaches a leading edge sensor 134, the carrying of the original is stopped temporarily, and the original is fed to an exposure part 3 by the operation of a start switch 105 under this state and is copied. If a copy paper jam occurs in the copying machine main body when an automatic feeding device 100 is operating, the original in the exposure part 3 is ejected to an original tray automatically by turning on a power switch 7 after the recovery of the jam, and the original in the separation part 102 is held in the position of the leading edge sensor 134.
