Abstract
1,205,679. Feeding webs. RICOH K.K. 18 Oct., 1968 [21 Oct., 1967], No. 49599/68. Heading B8B. [Also in Division G2] Apparatus for feeding strip material, having an initial set therein, to a device such as a copying apparatus which requires the material to be without curl includes means for imparting a corrective set to the material, the means being coupled to the feed mechanism for the material so as to be rendered inoperative when the feed mechanism is not operating so that an unwanted set, in the opposite sense of the initial set, is not imparted to the material if the feeding apparatus is left inoperative for a relatively lengthy period. As shown, a photo-conductive paper strip passes from a roll 1 over a guide roller 2 to a pair of feed rollers 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, roller 4 being permanently engaged by a brake (not shown) to prevent over-running of the roll 1, and then to a cutting device 5, 6 from which sheets of paper are fed to an electrostatic charging device 8 and thence by rollers 9, 9<SP>1</SP> to copying apparatus (not shown). Mounted between the rollers 2 and 4 is a set-modifying device including a bar 3 which can be rotated from an operative position, defined by a stop 11, in which it engages the paper and imparts a set thereto, to an inoperative position, defined by a stop 12, in which it disengages from the paper. A lever mechanism (Figs. 2 to 5, not shown) controls the angular position of the bar 3 and is associated with the feed roller 4 so that the bar is disengaged from the paper when the feed stops.
