Abstract

1,133,948. Winding webs. EDET INTERNATIONAL N.V. 30 Nov., 1966 [3 Dec., 1965], No. 53577/66. Heading B6B. In a three-drum, two-stage, web winding machine, the cut-off and transfer mechanism comprises an arcuate plate 12 which closely surrounds the new core 8 in the transfer position, and which has attached thereto a blade 11 which co-operates with the second winding drum 4 to sever the web. A series of openings (14, Fig. 2) in the blade, parallel to the cutting edge, allows a quantity of air to be drawn into the annular space between the plate 12 and the core 8, caused by the rotary motion of the core 8. This induces the cut end of the web to be deflected about the new core 8. A feeler 10 contacting the surface of the web-roll 9 causes the cut-off and transfer mechanism to be lowered and the finished web-roll to be discharged, when the required web-roll diameter is achieved.
