Abstract

1321972 Rolling mills DAVY & UNITED ENG CO Ltd 4 Jan 1972 [14 Jan 1971] 1872/71 Heading B3M A rolling mill entry guide, which is suitable for guiding and tensioning strip entering the first stand in a tandem cold-rolling strip mill, incorporates upper and lower sets 13 and 12 of horizontal guide rollers, the sets being so mounted on a pivotable frame 11 that they are easily removable. The set 12 is secured by pins 15<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 1) to the frame 11, and the set 13 is removably carried by a pair of arms 17. To remove the rollers, the arms 17 are lowered by ram assemblies 18 until the set 13 rests on the set 12 (Fig. 3). The frame is tilted about a hinge shaft 21, the sets are released from the frame, and are together lifted clear of the frame by a hoist 25. Vertical edge guiding rollers 16 are also supported in the frame, and are located either upstream, downstream, or between the horizontal rolls.
