Abstract

1321486 Coating by vapour deposition C J L HUNT 24 Feb 1972 [5 Dec 1970] 57887/70 Heading C7F Substrates mounted on holders 20 rotatable about members 21 are coated with e.g. aluminium, evaporated from filaments on an assembly 19 also rotatable about a vertical axis. The filaments and substrates may be rotated at different speeds. The filaments may also be moved vertically. The vacuum chamber 1 may be moved vertically by a hydraulic or pneumatic ram. The substrate holders are mounted on a base plate 14 which may be moved into position along rails 16 and then locked in position. Current is supplied to the filaments through a spacer rod 18a, the lower end of which engages a spring contact Fig. 3 (not shown).
