1320880 Tape treatment apparatus CLUETT PEABODY & CO Inc 16 March 1971 6984/71 Heading D1L In a system for impregnating with an aqueous solution of ammonia and drying a continuously advancing narrow fabric tape or ribbon the tape 8 is during the drying stage, passed into drying chamber 6 and round rotating cylinders 17, the tape being passed in wraps around each cylinder, each wrap being controlled by two pairs of parrallel guide rollers 16 and 18 located in a plane tangential to the cylinder, a further roller 19 being at right angles to the others and spaced radially outwards from the cylinder in relation to the others (Fig. 3, not shown). One pair of the parallel guide rollers, 16 and 18, is shown, although these rollers may be replaced by rods or may be spool shaped to aid the guidance of the tape. The cylinder 17 is heated to dry the tape, and may have a dryer belt 20 in contact with a substantial proportion of its periphery. The entire system for impregnating with ammonia solution as described consists of an initial bath 9 of ammonia solution followed by an ageing section 5 saturated with ammonia vapour in which the tape passes over a zig-zag roller arrangement; the tape then passing through a primary dryer section 6 in which it passes over dryer cylinders such as 17 and finally through a steaming and drying section 7 wherein it passes through a steam chest 24 and then over a final dryer drum 25.
