Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In apparatus for heat treating web material, the material passes about a heated cylinder 3 having a hood spaced about a portion of its periphery for the passage of heated air there-onto in a substantially radial direction from parallel rows of nozzles 12 formed by slots in the tops of a series of parallel ridges 11 and withdrawing the vapour-laden air along the lengths of the rows in grooves 10 formed between the ridges. The ends of the grooves open into the side parts Fig. 4 (not shown), of an outer casing for the withdrawn air to pass over steam heated tubes and fitters by a fan 1 for re-circulation. In another embodiment a laundry type ironing machine, Fig. 5, comprises rolls 18 co-operating with steam heated beds 19 between which beds are steam heated convex-surfaced guides 20, one or more of which has the above apparatus applied to it.
