1318731 Sulphur G WUNDERLICH and H WEBER 21 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 24647/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] NH 3 and H 2 S washed from coke oven gases are desorbed from ammoniacal liquor and the desorbed gases are separated into NH 3 gas largely free from H 2 S, and H 2 S gas largely free from NH 3 , and the two gases are burnt separately, the NH 3 completely to form N 2 and H 2 O, and the H 2 S partially to produce SO 2 which is reacted with residual H 2 S to make sulphur. Heat from the NH 3 burning is recovered as high pressure steam and all or some of the combustion gases may be added to the partly burnt H 2 S. Separation of the desorbed gases may be made in a separate column or in the upper part of the desorption column, and fuel gases may be added to the separated desorbed gases to aid burning.
