Abstract

1317072 Treating I.C. engine charges SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 19 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 26883/71 Heading F1B An exhaust gas recycling device comprises a recycling channel 4 between an exhaust pipe 3 and an intake pipe 1 having a main throttle 2, a return means urging an obturator 16 closed in the channel the obturator being opened by a suction device 8 the working chamber of which communicates with the intake pipe through orifices 10a, 10b situated so that they pass from the upstream to the downstream side of the throttle when the throttle is opened. When throttle 2 is closed or slightly open atmospheric pressure is communicated to chamber 8a so that the obturator is held in the closed position to prevent exhaust recycling. When orifices 10a, 10b lie respectively upstream and downstream of the edge of the throttle 2 the obturator is lifted to allow some recycling and when both orifices are upstream of the edge of throttle 2 the obturator is lifted to allow full recycling. At fully open throttle positions the increase of pressure in chamber 8a closes the obturator. Orifice 17 prevents pulse transmission to chamber 8a. Obturator 6 may have an edge formed as a scraper to remove deposits from passage 5a.
