Abstract
1316031 Magnetrons HITACHI Ltd 13 May 1971 [13 May 1970] 14659/71 Heading H1D In a magnetron arrangement in which a pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5, connected by a pair of magnetic yokes (one only, 7, shown), are disposed on opposite sides of the magnetron tube 1 in a plane which includes its longitudinal axis, the width of the magnets decreases gradually towards the tube surface, as shown, to give tapered plane side surfaces providing as much room as possible for the cooling means, shown as radial fins 8, over which air is passed from an axial duct 9 which extends beneath the tube. In other embodiments, the magnets may be of cylindrical or annular shape (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), with side portions defined, as in Fig. 2, by a pair of radial planes. The magnet surfaces 41, 51 facing the tube may be convex (Fig. 4 not shown), or concave (Fig 5, not shown), instead of flat. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown), the cooling fins are parallel and perpendicular to the tube axis.
