Abstract
1313374 Pumps operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids GROUPEMENT ATOMIQUE ALSACIENNE ATLANTIQUE 16 July 1970 [16 July 1969] 34634/70 Heading H2A An electromagnetic pump comprises a thermally insulated conduit 1 of refractory material, an arrangement for heating the conduit, two stator yokes 6 arranged adjacent the conduit, each yoke being formed with slots 7, Fig. 2 (not shown), perpendicular to the direction of the conduit, and a flat electrical winding 8 disposed in each slot. The pump disclosed comprises a graphite conduit coated with an oxygen resistant metal sheath 2 which in turn is surrounded by thermal insulation 3. Each yoke comprises segments secured together by a nut and bolt arrangement. The windings may be removed from the yokes simply by withdrawing the yokes from the conduit, pushing the windings out of the slots and then sliding them along the yokes. The yokes are located in ventilation chambers 9. The conduit 1 is slightly tapered to facilitate removal of accidentally solidified metal.
