Abstract
1310039 Tufted pattern control EDGAR PICKERING (BLACKBURN) Ltd 10 Nov 1971 [12 Nov 1970] 53915/70 Heading DIG A patterning attachment for controlling the feed of yarn 6 to the needles 33 of a tufting machine comprises a pair of feed rollers 7, 8 geared together to rotate as a unit, and formed with Vee grooves to accommodate the yarn, a pair of driving rollers 1, 2, driven at different speeds and each provided with a vee groove, and an idler roll 7 having a male Vee periphery which engages the groove in one feed roller 7 and is selectively engagable, under the control of a patterning mechanism, with the groove in one or the other of the driving rollers. The periphery of the idler roll does not penetrate to the root of the groove in the feeding roll, which groove may be roughened to provide a traction surface for the yarn. The idler roll is carried on a clevis 14 and urged by a spring 15 into contact with the low speed roller 2 unless a solenoid 12 is energised by the patterning means, which latter may include photoelectric scanning means, magnetic tape, micro switches or other conventional pattern devices. The solenoid may be replaced by an air cylinder or a double acting pneumatic cylinder, when the spring 15 may be omitted. The cylinder may be actuated by a solenoid valve or by fluids.
