Abstract

1427205 Texturing yarns ENTERPRISE MACHINE & DEVELOPMENT CORP 7 Sept 1973 [14 Sept 1972] 42278/73 Headings DID and D1F In a method of texturing yarn whilst producing variation in bulkiness along the length thereof, a yarn withdrawn from source is directed adjacent a pair of feed rolls rotating at different speeds and passed through a fluid jet device whereafter the textured yarn is wound. The running yarn is moved so as to be engaged alternatively with one and the other of the feed rolls thereby to vary the speed at which it is fed to the jet. The speed of and the speed differential between the feed rolls may be varied to produce any degree of intermittent bulkiness or thick and thin portions along the yarn and to form "reps" or slubs at variously spaced intervals. One or more e.g. core and/or effect, yarns derived from independent source(s) may also be fed by one (or the other) feed roller continuously and at appropriate speed so as to entangle, and be textured with, the first yarn within the jet. In the variable feed mechanism shown, a running yarn Y normally passes through the nip between spring-loaded idler roller 45 and a relatively slow-running feed roll 20. A solenoid 55 is energised at and for predetermined intervals, according to the control of a programme device 57 to move a rocker bracket 41 against the bias of spring 50 whereby idler roll 45 is withdrawn from operation contact with roll 20 and a hitherto inoperative idler roller 46 is forced into contact with a relatively fast-running feed roll 21 (driven through belt 28 and a multiple pulley 29) to form a nip therebetween through which the yarn then passes at increased speed.
