Abstract
1308588 Sailing boats MRANDELL-CLARK 4 Jan 1972 279/72 Addition to 1287258 Heading B7V A reefing claw is formed so that when the boat is running downwind or the main sheet is slackened, the claw is inhibited or prevented from coming away from its spar. As illustrated in Fig. 4 the claw is in the form of a tube 1 having a longitudinal opening 5 for accomodating the sail. The ends of the claw are flared to avoid sail damage, rails 6 allow the attachment of control lines, and openings 8 allow the attachment of boom keys. In modifications, there may be a single transverse or longitudinal control line rail, and the claw may be of rectangular section. As illustrated in Fig. 7, the claw is hook shaped and is held on the spar by a tab 68 which may be rotated through 180 degrees about a bolt 67 to detach the claw from the spar. Two claws may be used on one spar and they may be connected by a length of line, Fig. 3 (not shown), or by a rigid track for receiving a sliding boom key, Fig. 8 (not shown). One of the two claws may be as described in Specification 1,287,258.
