Abstract

1307796 Electric cables SIEMENS AG 19 April 1971 [4 June 1970] 24014/71 Heading H1A A communications cable 1 has indentations of depth not greater than 0À5 mm. in a closed metal casing 5 which surrounds a core 2. Core 2 comprises wires insulated with synthetic plastics material, and the spaces between the separate wires and between the wires and the metal casing are filled with a mass of sealing material 3. The metal casing 5 may be of aluminium or copper and may be applied directly, for example, as a metal tape applied helically or longitudinally. Alternatively it may have a plastics coating on one or both sides or it may be embedded in a plastics coating. The indentations may be circumferential or helical corrugations or they may be "cup-shaped". The filling material 3 may be a mixture of microcrystalline petroleum waxes and oils, or polyethylene. A core wire covering 4 of textile, plastics, or paper tape is wound on the core. Metal casing 5 consisting of aluminium or copper foil coated on both sides with plastics material is indented and surrounded by a polyethylene casing 6. A device for producing the indentations comprises eight or more indentation wheels arranged in groups of 4, the wheels of each group being uniformly spaced at 90 degrees from each other about an axis the groups being displaced along the axis.
