Abstract
1301499 Welding by pressure PATENTTREUHAND - GES FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN mbH 10 Nov 1970 [10 Nov 1969] 53425/70 Heading B3R [Also in Division H1] In an electric lamp having molybdenum foils 4 pinch sealed into a glass envelope, with lamp components of a refractory metal welded to the ends of the foils, the welds between the foils and at least those lamp components extending externally of the lamp each includes an intermediate layer of aluminium. Tungsten or molybdenum base pins 7 of a halogen incandescent lamp are ultrasonically welded to molybdenum foils 4 sealed into a quartz glass envelope containing nitrogen and hydrogen bromide. Each pin is welded to a molybdenum foil by a steel sonotrode having a bore in which a steel body having a sintered aluminium welding tip is carried, the pin being laid on an anvil, covered with aluminium foil or powder in paste form with ethanol and then covered with the molybdenum foil prior to welding. The molybdenum foils are ultrasonically welded to the ends of a tungsten or molybdenum filament 5 using intermediate layers of platinum or aluminium in foil or paste form. The welds between the components and the molybdenum foils take place before the foils are pinch sealed into the envelope.
