Abstract
1299965 Felt nib pens GILLETTE CO 20 Feb 1970 [3 March 1969] 8356/70 Heading A4K A fibre nib pen is automatically assembled by feeding a pen barrel B to the uppermost pen barrel receiving recesses of a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses in a barrel index drum 20, simultaneously feeding a dry fibrous wick W into one of a plurality of split bushings 46 circumferentially spaced about a wick index drum 40, said one bushing being axially aligned with the uppermost pen barrel receiving recesses, moving the aligned barrel and wick by rotation of the two index drums to a position in which the wick is filled with ink from a reciprocating ink discharge tube 105 which engages with an opening 50 in the upper split bushing 49, rotating the two index drums to a third position in which a plunger (122), Fig. 12 (not shown) axially moves the ink filled wick into the barrel B and a pen tip (T), Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown) is fed from a hopper into axial alignment with the forward end of the barrel and thereafter axially driving the tip into the barrel so that the tip is embedded into the forward end of the wick and rotating the index drums to a fourth position in which a stake (S), Figs. 15-17 (not shown) is driven through the forward end of the pen barrel and the tip so as to secure the tip therein.
