Abstract

1,139,038. Ball-point pens. DAINIHON BUNGU K.K. 4 Jan., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966; 8 Oct., 1966], No. 545/67. Heading B6P. In a ball-point pen intended to use an aqueous ink, the ink passes by capillary action from the reservoir by means of a capillary core 10, the cross-section of which is reduced towards the point. The core is made of fibres resin-bonded and subjected to hardening treatment. As shown, the core 10 has a portion 10a of smaller diameter projecting into a similar size passage 9 in the ball-holder part 5, and, according to a modification, it may have a further part of still smaller diameter projecting into the smaller passage 8. The core may be tapered towards the point instead of having its diameter reduced in steps. An absorption type or a cartridge type reservoir may be used. An air-hole (13, Fig. 1) is provided in the barrel 1 near to the point, and radial grooves 7 may be provided in the ball-seating 6.
