Abstract
1299872 Extrusion BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 16 March 1970 [10 March 1969] 12379/69 Heading B3P A metal billet 17 is hot extruded hydrostatically using a fluid 16 of molten material which is heated by electric resistance heaters in the material. The material may be glass, salts or low melting point metals which also act as a die lubricant and may form a coating on the extruded product. The container 10 has a lining 12 and is cooled to maintain the material at the optimum working temperature. The billet is preheated and made of low carbon steel which is heated sufficiently by the fluid to allow controlled recrystallization as it leaves the die 13.
