Abstract

1299661 Pipes and tubes; bobbins P A FALLSCHEER 10 Feb 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 6333/70 Heading F2P [Also in Division B8] A bobbin for synthetic fibre yarn comprising a body 1 wound from paper is provided with a barrier layer 2 impermeable to liquid disposed on the body and beneath an absorbent top layer 3. The bobbin may comprise several layers 1 of paper with a barrier layer of parchment paper, the top layer 3 preferably being of absorbent paper. The top layer may be formed of synthetic plastics foam material. In a further embodiment, the bobbin comprises layers of paper 1 with a barrier layer of plastics or metal foil. The object of the layers is to ensure that yarn on the bobbin retains the correct amount of finish, the absorbent layer taking up the excess finish while the barrier layer prevents the finish taken up from weakening the bobbin.
