Abstract

1359913 Yarn supports E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 17 Oct 1972 [18 Oct 1971] 47745/72 Heading B8M A yarn support 10 comprises a core 12 of absorbent material, e.g. paper, having a perforated coating 14 of non-absorbent material, e.g. plastics film, disposed thereabout, said coating 14 forming a winding surface for the yarn. The core 12 is preferably formed of helically wound kraft paper or moulded paper and may be provided with indentations registering with the perforations 16 in the coating 14. In a further embodiment, the core 12 is provided with an impermeable layer, e.g. of plastics film, disposed within the core and dividing the core into a radially outer layer and a radially inner layer, the outer layer being twice as thick as the inner layer. The coating 14 may be perforated prior to application to the core layer. In a preferred embodiment the coating 14 is applied to the core 12 and the perforations are then made in such a way that indentations are also formed in the core. The coating 14 may be of vinylidene copolymer or of cellulose acetate.
