1495631 Spiral tubes MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd 10 April 1975 [16 April 1974] 14884/75 Heading F2P A tube is made by spirally winding and adhering a dressed film 4, e.g. a synthetic paper or a plastics film, on to an inner or outer surface of a paper tube a, e.g. on a mandrel of a spiral tube winder, such that succeeding edges of the film overlap, and simultaneously spirally winding an intermediate paper 2 between the paper tube a and the dressed film 4. The paper tube a may also be simultaneously wound and consists of, e.g. several layers of relatively thick paper 1 such as cardboard, Manila, unbleached sulphate fibre board or kraft paper board, having a separation g between adjacent turns. The intermediate paper 2 is relatively thin, e.g. fine quality paper or kraft paper. The dressed film may be an orientated or non- orientated film of, e.g. a polyolefin, a polyvinyl chloride, a polyamide, polystyrene, or polyester, or a synthetic paper made therefrom. A layer of adhesive, e.g. emulsion adhesive such as polyvinyl acetate, vinyl acetate, ethylene - vinyl acetate, acrylic, acrylic copolymer or rubber emulsion, lies between the dressed film 4 and the intermediate paper 2. Solvent or hot melt adhesives may be used. A sheet of waste paper coated with molten wax may form the innermost layer when the dressed film is applied to the inner surface of the tube a. In this case the outer surface of the tube a may also be coated with a dressed film 3 with or without an intermediate paper.
