Abstract

<PICT:1029530/C6-C7/1> During the winding of a flat strip of sheet material to form a drinking tube, the sheet material is crinkled throughout to provide numerous shallow wrinkles 20, Fig.2, in random pattern and is formed with at least one helical rib 18 extending outwardly of the surface of the tube. A transparent sheet of regenerated cellulose, 0.0015 inch thick, 2 1/2 inches wide and furnished with a heat-sealable coating, is wound with a step-off of 5/8 inch to provide a tube with four superimposed layers. A narrow coloured strip 13 of the same material is wound in between the two outer layers for aesthetic effect. In a tube of 1/4 inch diameter, the wrinkles 20, which preferably extend uninterruptedly the length of the tube, are spaced one half of the width of the overlap and are approximately 1/128 inch in height. The over-lapped edges of the tube are heat-sealed in fluid-tight relation.
