Abstract

1299028 Casting-machines NIPPON LIGHT METAL CO Ltd 15 July 1971 [15 July 1970] 33344/70 Heading B3F A pressure die casting apparatus has means 12 for introducing oxygen into the injection cylinder 9 and die cavity 5 and a gate between the injection cylinder and die cavity said gate comprising a constriction 6, a part 8 having a diverging wall structure extending towards the cavity 5, and a part 7 having a wall structure converging towards the constriction 6. This constriction produces a violent turbulent flow at the gate on injection of the molten metal into the cavity 5 and thus ensures that the metal and oxygen in the cavity become well mixed. The oxygen reacts with the metal to produce a casting having fine particles of metal oxide dispersed therein.
