Abstract

1290545 Packaging ACI OPERATIONS PTY Ltd 31 Oct 1969 [31 Oct 1968 13 Jan 1969] 53624/69 Heading B8C A method of packing bottles comprises inserting partition strips 1 and 2 between longitudinal rows of bottles, arranged in a carton 10, and then inserting further partition strips 3, 4 and 5 above the strips 1 and 2 and between transverse rows of bottles. A further two strips 6 and 7 are inserted between the longitudinal rows of bottles and above the strips 3, 4 and 5. An additional strip 8 is inserted above the strips 6 and 7; the top edge of this strip 8 being engaged by the closure flaps of the carton when closed causing the strips 1-7 to remain in position between the bottles. An apparatus for inserting partition strips between the rows of bottles 12 comprises a plunger 28 for pushing partition strips one at a time from a magazine to a position between a finger 32 and a spring clip 33 pivoted at 31 for movement between the positions shown in broken lines and full lines, and a vertically movable slotted member 36 for forcing a partition strip from the finger 32 downwards between a row of bottles 12. A plurality of such strip inserting mechanisms, each of which is capable of inserting one or more partition strips, are linked by a conveyer. The partition strip inserting operation is initiated by a carton engaging a stop 40 and once the partition strip insertion cycle is complete the stop 40 is retracted by a lever 39 driven by a cam. A mechanism (not shown) is provided at the start of the machine to separate any boxes running together without the appropriate space between them.
