1288743 Window fastenings; stays J W TAYLOR 18 Dec 1969 [8 Oct 1968] 47624/68 Headings E2A and E2F A locking device for a window which is movable relative to a fixed frame between an open and a closed position, the device comprising a fixed channel shaped member and a movable member pivotally connected to the fixed member, the movable member being pivotal about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said fixed member between an inoperative position in which the movable member projects from one end of the channel of the fixed member and in which the window is openable and an operative position in which the movable member projects from the other end of the channel of the fixed member to lock the window in the closed position, key operable means being provided to lock the movable member in the operative position. In one embodiment in Fig. 1a the movable member 13 in the locked position shown abuts the cockspur 7 and is held in position by the screw 15 which is engaged in a thread in the fixed member 10 of U-shaped cross-section. To release the cockspur 7 the screw 15 is released and the movable member 13 rotated about the axis 14. The movable member 13 may contain adjacent and parallel to the axis 14 a spring loaded ball device which cooperates with an indentation in a lower edge of the fixed member 10 to hold the movable member in the unlocked position. In another embodiment in Fig. 2a the locking device, which is the same as that shown in Fig. 1a, is fixed to the movable frame (17) of a window and in the locked position the movable member (13) overlays the fixed frame (18) of a casement window and in the unlocked position rests in a recess (18a). In a further embodiment in Fig. 3a the locking device may cooperate with the elongated stay of a fan light window in which device the fixed member is attached to the stay and the movable member which rotates in the plane of the longitudinal axis of the stay is locked in position by the screw 15 and the end thereof 13a engages under the projecting bracket 23 preventing movement of the stay. In all embodiments the locking screws 15 which are recessed and have a specially shaped head adapted for use with a particular key, may be replaced by similarly headed bayonet joint fastenings or a key operable lock mechanism. The movable member 13 may have a spring loaded ball bearing therein which engages with a recess in a wall of the channel to hold the movable member in the inoperative position.
