Abstract
1287263 Torsion-spring hinge WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd 16 Sept 1969 [17 Sept 1968] 44158/68 Headings E2F E2M] A hinge comprises a hinge arm and a torsion bar having one end serving to pivot the arm to a bracket and anchored to the bracket adjacent the pivot the other torsion bar end being cranked to form a reaction leg engaging the arm. The hinge described comprises an arm 5 pivoted by end 6 of torsion bar 13 to bracket flanges 3, 4, the bar being anchored by lug 17 to flange 4. Torsion bar leg 9 engages an abutment, e.g. roller 10, on arm 5. Alternatively the arm may have two abutments, one contacting leg 9 over an initial range of hinge: movement while the other contacts leg 9 thereafter, or leg 9 may have a projection which engages a contoured edge of the arm. Leg 9 may be cranked to provide the desired hinge torque characteristic, the torque provided by the torsion bar preferably decreasing with hinge opening movement.
