Abstract
939,845. Door counterbalancing devices. BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO. Ltd. Jan. 3, 1961 [Nov. 21, 1959], No. 39594/59. Class 65 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] A lid or cover 10, e.g. for a vehicle boot, hinged about a horizontal or substantially horizontal axis is wholly or partially counterbalanced by a torsion bar 13 mounted on the lid or cover itself and having at one or each end a cranked arm 16 bearing against an abutment on a stationary part. The abutment may comprise a roller 18, as shown, or an inclined or cam track against which a roller mounted at the end of the arm is adapted to bear. The lid or cover may be located in one or more angular positions by kinks 22 in the arm or by recesses formed in the track, and a curved portion 23 may be provided at the end of the arm to limit the opening movement. Adjacent the or each arm 16 the bar is rotatably mounted in a bracket 17 secured to the lid, and is anchored to the lid by means of an oppositely cranked end, if it has one arm, or by a central loop if it has two arms. Two bars may be fitted to a heavy cover or lid.
