Abstract

1480750 Hinges IHW ENG Ltd 12 Feb 1975 [11 May 1974] 20910/74 Heading E2F In a hinge comprising two members 1, 2, a second member 2 is secured to a door 9 and a first member 1 is secured to a frame 8 having a door opening therein, the members 1 and 2 are mounted about a pin 7 and a leaf spring 4 is secured to the first member 1 for co-operating with a nose portion 2b of the second member 2 when the two members are in a predetermined angular position to hold the two members in that position relative to one another. As the door is opened the nose portion 2b swings about the pivot pin towards the leaf spring 4, an arcuate face 2c of the nose 2b will eventually contact the spring 4 and restrain further opening of the door 9. Sufficient further force in the opening direction of the door will enable the spring 4 to be depressed as the nose 2b pushes against it. Further movement will cause the spring 4 to be deflected until a point is reached when the surface 4a of the spring 4 contacts a substantially planar face 2f, the face 2e of the nose 2b then being in face to face contact with the interior surface of the member 1. In this position the door 9 is held against further opening by abutment of members 1 and 2 against one another, member 2 being urged into such abutment by cooperation of face 2f and surface 4a. To close the door pressure against the resistance of the spring 4, the spring is deflected and the nose 2b is forced out of contact with the surface 4a of the spring 4. The spring then returns to its initial position and the door 9 is swung into the closed position. In a modification (Figs. 5 and 6 not shown) a roller comprises the nose 2b of the member 2.
