1287069 Lap forming-machines E FEHRER 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970] 22731/71 Heading D1N A web forming apparatus comprises a toothed drum 3 with associated toothed rollers 4, 5 an air nozzle 6 extending along the drum and discharging an air stream tangentially to the drum to carry fibres down to a vacuum roll 10, and a conveyor belt 8 for delivering the collected web. The vacuum roll includes an insert to vary .the area of the roll subjected to suction The vacuum roll 10 and the conveyor belt 8 are adjustably mounted to vary the horizontal distance from the drum 3 to the roll 10 so that the fibre orientation in the collected web can be varied. A shield 12 can be provided between the drum 3 and the roll 10.
