Abstract

1371546 Lap-forming apparatus KENDALL CO 26 Sept 1972 [8 Nov 1971 27 April 1972] 44488/72 Heading D1N A non-woven web is made by passing an airborne stream of fibres having a length of at least 1 inch into an enclosed duct 22 which is smoothly curved in the direction of flow of the stream at a velocity sufficient to cause fibres to become aligned, provided the airstream is undisturbed, in a transverse direction along the curved wall in a shallow transversely band which is narrower than the average length of the fibre, and collecting the fibres emerging from the duct on a porous moving conveyor. The airborne stream may be disturbed in advance of the curved wall to reduce the ratio of cross to machine direction strength. The conveyor may extend at an angle to the length of the outlet of the duct 22. A plurality of ducts may feed fibres onto a single conveyor.
